Mike's 74 260Z

Post by Mike260Z »

Hi All

Just thought I would share my continuing 260Z Build

Got the Car in 2006 looking like this

Image

It was kind of love at first sight , being that I had never owned a water soluble car before I had no idea of the horrors lurking under that fridge white exterior........

The Old Girl had the following good things

Triple Mikunis

Full race exhaust and headers

tidy interior (and a mint dash)

MSD Blaster

However She also had some very average wiring and mucho rusto , in the doors , hatch , B pillars , doors , rear arches.

Not to mention some orange peel paint

Fast forward to 2010 and we moved up to the big smoke in Auckland

I had added the Konig Rewinds and spent a small nations Healthcare budget on rust/paint in the previous 4 years

Also as the carbs had trumpets and no filters the first engine gave up about two months after I got it.

The gearbox died while driving to work one day , 16 km trip stuck in second doh!

Also the car developed a fuel leak around the filler (discovered one day by my workmate sitting in a pool of fuel)

By this stage mates were calling Her "Christine" or "Eleanor" on account of Her A trying to Kill me or B refusing to start at important times.

hey mike welcome, oh the joys of owning a classic piece of Datsun motoring history, most of us here have experienced the dreaded rust lurgy at one time or another, keen to see more pics, what stage are you up to now?

Seeing I had a company car and a little more cash with a better job I embarked on more sprucing

Que buying spree from Merica

One set of new ZG guards , seeing my Girl is a 2+2 she is slightly bigger in the bootie than your average S30.

While I am happy to work on the engine I defer my panel and paint to the experts.

The remark from my talented panel and paint guy was "whatever car these flares were meant for it wasn't this one"

Image

As you can see the flares looked mean but the Konigs were a we bit tiny

Back to the internet and stuff got very real

After much stuffing around finding tires

Toyo NZ ran out of 245 16s at the same time I got my wheels.

Image

At the same time I also added a "Street set up" of Tokico shocks and springs. The car also copped a full bush kit and some align work from the good fellas at Autolign.

This is how She looks now with a set of JDM fender mirrors

My most recent progress is inside the car

I went through a phase of wanting to cage the car out , went as far as removing and selling the rear seat.

That was a tad silly , I went to see Stu at Stu's Trim and Sound

Image

He worked his magic on the hole where the rear seats used to be and also with my missing boot liner.

Next on the list is sticking on the small pile of parts I have for Her.

New Spoiler (just the same as the one on the car but less cracked)

Body hugging 240 style front bumper (painted the same tone as the flares)

New Rubbers for windows so I no longer huff exhaust when I drive Her.

Panel and paint tidy up

Ported N42 Head i recently picked up.
