Hi All,
I've just welded up my sump, and not surprisingly it has a few leaks (my skills are DIY at best in this area). While I could spend a long time grinding back and rewelding bits to find the pinholes, I thought it may be more efficient to seal it from the inside (and produce a more reliable result then my welding).
Question - does anyone know of any products that work well for this? I thought I could use JBweld on the inside as a sealer, but don't know how it will go with hot oil. Other thoughts were a petrol tank repair kit?
Keen to here any ideas or anyone who has done this before.
Cheers
Jeremy

You want a clean inside free from additives

Re: Sealing sump
Find someone who is a ninja with a TIG. Get them to go over it for you. Glue works for some stuff, but I wouldn't use it to try seal a custom sump.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............
Re: Sealing sump
Maybe try a urethane? Was thinking epoxy resin but with the difference in thermal expansion between the steel and the resin might not be that successful. Urethane retains a bit of flexibility which might help.
Re: Sealing sump
Or like Bart said. Good welding obviously the best option.

Brazing/easyflowing over the joints (internally) should work. The materials aren't cheap though.

Re: Sealing sump
When you say "welding up your sump" what do you mean? have you placed another tapping point in it or where you doing something a little more tricky i.e. baffles and wings?
If you have welded it and can not see where you have gone wrong easily you may find your problem is a big one and will continue to have leaks as it heats up and cools.
Where you welding using Mig - gas, gas-less, Stick or Tig? or good old Oxy Acctileen? (sorry for my poor spelling)
Sometimes when using Mig it is easier and cleaner to do small short runs than long runs, the easiest way I have found to set them up is get your amps as high as you dare, then play with your wire feed until it sounds good if it sounds like its humming it most probably is.
Keep your tip, welding helmet lenses and everything as clean as, the amount of times I have listened to someone welding to stop them and give a little advice to actually find they can't see anything through a dirty lens is amazing, get comfortable spend some time setting it up and playing with it and your welding will improve 10 fold.
