Big cam head or efi

Post by Monsta01 »

Im wondering if yu guys can help me sway my opinion one way of my two options i really thinking about, my 160j sss has a mildly worked L16 at the moment with 65 kw at thewheels it goes bloody well but i want a bit more and always wanted a really rough idle so option one is build a new head which has smaller combustion chambers which will give 10:1 compression up from 9.3:1 and have porting and a large nissan works cam with huge overlap, or the other option which is just as costly if not more so really is to go fuel injected using 4age itbs thatmi picked up a set o cheap only problem is i need a custom manifold made and then ecu etc this would be cokl for tunability etc and maybe grt shooting some flames but i love carbs and am just so ton with my options any help would be goodnthanks guys

EFI, IMO.
Then work towards the B.C.H.

Decent head and side drafts , no cert required and will be cheaper in the long run.

If you want a lumpy Idle, a Worked Head/Cam is the answer.
I think you will find it quicker to get running and you will be driving again sooner so the satisfaction return will be higher.

You can always go EFI in the future. Check out Kitch's Coupe Build for EFI inspiration.

It doesn't matter how much you have you always want a little Bit more. So build somethong you can live with and get the most enjoyment out of.

EFI was not developed because it produced more power but because it enabled cleaner emissions.

The only thing that efi will give you is better fuel economy when you're not revving the clacker off it, lower emissions, and good starting.
This "nissan works cam" you speak of is how old? (ie, when was the grind designed)
Cam technology has come a long way in the last 30 years.
efi by itself wont make it go much harder.
you can buy ITB's that will bolt up to your existing sidedraft manifold too.
The three C's will denote how much power you get.
Cam, carb, compression.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

Yip the three C's only work if you have flow.I se it time after time people putting big valves in big cam grind the fuck out of the ports and the car goes backwards. runner bowl seat and valve shape and size on a NA motor is what determines how much HP you can make get that right and you wont end up disappointed

He never mentioned power as the maximum end goal, just wanted a bit more.
Just asked for opinions on what to do next. :dance2:
I am just giving my opinion
