steering rack into datto 1200

Hey peoples.

Just wondering if anyone has fitted a steering rack and pinion to a datto 1200? Am wondering what vehicle an ideal rack would come from?? non power steer of course

Ive never seenanyone do a conversion but my mrs BF10 Cherry has a non power steer rack innit and it look like the ideal width for a 1200. Just an idea

You'd need to find a rack with the same distance between the rack end pivot joints as between the two lower arm pivot points. If you could find one that was close to that measurement, you might be able to move your lower arm pivots to match it.

I looked into it for a while but didn't pursue it too far since I wanted my car going sooner rather than later. But Mini steering rack is the closest, thats the route I was going to go Nice quick ratio too/

I looked at starlet, Even borrowed a complete front crossmember to see if that could be made to work, But believe it or not they are still about 60 mm wider from memory. I can't remember the exact measurement It is 600mm between bottom arm mounting points and I think 1200 is 540 or 520.

Daihatsu charade or mira is the same width as a 1200, I'm pretty sure they are rack.

a mates done a rack conversion in his rally 1200 will find out wot he did, from memory it was starlet or levin but it was a fuck load of work then there bump steer issues, was alot of work for little gain in my eyes.
