Re: James 85 Z31 300zx -Uh Oh Racing Slicks & LSD

Post by 85_Z31 »

Oh dear god,

Just spent like 4 hours cutting hacking and slashing the old rubber bushings out of the trailing arms.

It went a bit like

Step 1 use a hole saw to get the center sleeve out

Step 2 Use die grinder and sanding rolls to get the rubber and shit off the center sleeve

step 3 use die grinder and spend hours burning and grinding all the rubber and shit out of the inside of the trailing arm

step 5 repeat steps 1-3 ANOTHER 3 TIMES MAKING A HUGE MESS ARRRRGGHHHHh

but now its done and time for a beer or 4

Looking good, I'm impressed with your progress, Akoroa was the goal for me, I've done nothing since. Good on you.

uh I'm starting to get pissed off now, My new IRS crossmember bushings have not arrived from the USA yet.

If only I had them I could be starting re assembly.

LSD diff is definitly on the go, just going to be a lot more work than I thought.

but I have purchased and paid for some brand new Rear Koni Adjustable shocks so they are definitly going to help things along.

If anybody ever needs a few tips on removing IRS crossmember bushings or trailing arm bushings "DIY STYLES" ie without a press and without a gass plant

flick me a PM i have some tips

I can see why people hate doing this part.

Yay for IRS Crossmember solid Bushings

Package took a stupid amount of time to get here

It's quite plain to see why you would want these when compared to the OEM floppy & Sloppy's

I Accidentally removed a suspension outer sleeve from the control arm, so I'm having a new one turned up than I can press back in.

after that re assembly & final weld the exhaust + throw some heat wrap around that wastegate dump

( brake line's & battery are getting a bit warm as they are quite close )

Those rear subframe bushes do look beefy compared to the OEM ones.
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

Uh Some bad news,

Parts car Diff Can't be used has heaps of Marring on the leading edge of the crown wheel

Might have to stop being stingy and buy that one from Mint16 I'm just so cheap though, and broke from buying Koni Adjustable shocks for the rear.

Edit > since my subframe is getting modified already I am thinking I might as well go for fitting the entire short nose R200 diff.

Problems are finding an Short Nose R200 with a high enough diff ratio ie 3.7 or 3.9 as most seem to be 4.11

the long nose in my car is a bit sad already clunking when you get on the loud pedal and being a high mileage unit I am suspecting the Gear set in it has done its dash.

Does anybody know which Short Nose R200's had 3.7 or 3.9 ratio's - the diff can be open as I already have the LSD center ??
