Few pics of the old mans 510

Thought I'd drag a few pics and info over here of my old mans 510.

First off a bit of history of the car. It's been in the family since around 1996 when my brother bought it off one of his mates.

It was featured in "4's and rotary's" back in the early 90's and was one of the first fj20 conversions done in a 510 in Australia. Pics from shoot here -> http://www.turbocreations.com/fj20/white1600/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

After my brother blew up 3 motors in it, he sold it to my dad not running, my old man picked up a motor from a local importer and chucked it in to get it going.

He's slowly been replacing painted stuff (which was popular in early 90's when the car was built) with chrome stuff.

Few specs

- fj20et & 5 speed with microtech MT-8
- High flowed T3
- W2A intercooler
- r200 clutch pack lsd
- R31 silo seats retrimmed
- 240k struts with hilux 4 spots coilovered in the front.
- Falcon rear discs and brakes.

Currently i'm in the process of putting a FMIC, new rad, turbo, manifold, Electric water pump etc in it.

Forgot to mention, also picked up a new forged motor for a steal, so putting that in at the same time

Testing some extractors I had lying around that I'd got off an S12 years ago, they were going to work until I discovered the impeller wheel on the turbo was damaged, looks like it ate a nut or something. If I rotated the housing on the turbo it would fit nicely.


Marking bits to trim with grinder to let the IC sit nice and straight and against the grill

Now sits flush

Chopped this part of the front pulley off (think it's power steering) to give thermo fan clearance

More marking for cutting

Grinding using cutting wheel

Cleaned up with grinding wheel


Another check to see that chrome goes back on


Were it's currently at is, waiting on my mate to finish cutting and rewelding the inlet manifold to suit a bigger TB and change the angle of where it points (to sort IC)

Also bought a T28BB off a jap spec S15, waiting on an S12 exhaust manifold and adaptor to come which will fix that side up. Didnt want a big turbo, just wanted something responsive for the old man to putt around with.

And just working on radiator mounts etc at the moment as it didn't come with any.

I agree the white bumpers were shit, and those mirrors have been on the list to remove for a while it's just unfortunate where they are positioned it's hard to find a set that will be usable due to how low the holes have been drilled.

Will also put chrome handles on to eventually.

The white was called an arctic white from memory, and hasnt been painted since back in the 90's so it's really held up well.

Should be a really driveable car once it's all back together. Best part about it is it was professionally built so everything has been done properly.

Forgot to mention we will be painting the engine bay when the old motor comes out, will be my first attempt at painting so I'm eagerly looking forward to it with the help of a mate in the know.

Just found this thread while going through my old posts, may as well update it

I now own the car (my dad gifted it to me when he retired), not before putting a rebuilt engine, painted car and new wheels were added - nice guy!

Thanks mate, will be happy once it has the ECU, COP setup and wideband completed.

I'm modifying the dizzy to a trigger setup, and doing a trigger setup on the crank as well. Have the cad drawing done for the crank, just need to get some material and get it cut.

Hoping to wire up the ecu myself so we'll see how that goes, doesn't look difficult if you take your time (famous last words).
