Blue 240Z

Post by classicdat »

This has been sneaking around for a bit, about time it got it's own ride thread :P
I bought this a few years back in ok condition, (for a 40 year old car), with some non factory fittings, seats etc. It has been a long journey back to original, with the odd earth quake thrown in just to slow progress and increase the repairs required.

The original engine was removed in the '90s and dumped outside, I managed to track it down to a little town about 80km from Whakatane. Got it trucked down and began the rebuild. Major Cavitation of the bores ,but not passed recovery.

Did a deal to largely swap after market parts for original ones, restored everything that needed done and gave the body a once over.

More to come, but here are some pics of it, and my folks 'Z' car, hard to believe their's is only 5 years older.

Some pics from last year, the cars first run out of town, to Wainui.
The guy I bought the car off had owned it for 20yrs, Had really loved it but with the arrival of children found he wasn't using it and it was getting neglected so decided to sell it before it deteriorated.
After the tidy up and subsequent repairs from the earth quake my goal was to debut the car at the Rakaia cruise 2 years ago. The plan was to attend a funeral in Invercargill and return to Christchurch Via the Rakaia Cruise, a great way to run an engine in. Unfortunately time was against me and by the time I had a Wof, I didn't have enough time to tune and road test to be happy to drive it such a distance. The 2nd hand SU carbs were hard to get in tune and I wasn't happy to venture all the way South on a new engine that wasn't 100%.
Enter Sept. 22nd 2011, I was home from Rakaia having attended in my trusty 1200. I had not bothered to register or insure the 240 before I went and now, after the big shake, no insurance company wanted anything to do with my Zed, so she sat for another 6 months.
Finally her Debut arrived, the Fundraising BBQ at SuperCheap. Easter 2012. I had only just parked up and was setting up a table when I was greeted by a young bogan saying "sorry Sir the wind caught my Sunny door and I have just put a huge Gark in your guard", I though he was pulling my chain :( , not the best first outing, but not the last for the Zed.
There are a few Photos on here of it cruising to Kaikoura and back via the inland route. An awesome day out and roads the Zed loved. http://www.nzdatsun.com/forums/viewtopi ... =16&t=3076" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
These things must have been unbelievable back in the day.
Here are a few pics taken just before the Nostelgic Japanese Car cruise.

Here goes a tough one Braasy, this one can be yours when you come and visit NZ, and then you don't need to worry about it, or have the expense of it when you are back in Aussie, Win Win. The hope is that soon it will be available for Rental :D
James that would be great, I have been out to Northwood several times this week, and thought of you each time thinking I should come and see yours, and finally meet you. PM or txt me your address and I will be out.
