Ok so my l24 is a little tired. And im considering rebuilding gonna be around 700 for the stuff. any one no any cheaper options?
So this made me consider an l28 build. Budget is minimal. i was wondering what putting that under my e30 head would be like? also what the cheapest stroker build. I wanted to try a n42 block overbored 40 thou or 1mm with ld28 crank and 1 mm oversized stock pistons with maybe l24 rods. To keep price down. Thatd give me around 2.9 3.0 litres displacement?
Also any l28 engines or main parts. I have searched but couldn't find anything on just running an ld crank and stand overbore l28 pistons.
cheers

Re: L28 build idea
The plan was block bored 1mm over any block should do right?
Use ld28 crank
Use l20a rods
Use current e30 head for mean time with 2mm head gasket unless i can find a n42 head which would be ideal and run with stock gasket
Flat top 87mm l28 pistons
should be 2.96L and 10.1 with n42 and 10.7 with e30
Any cam advice?
Want to try stick with l28 pistons as a full rebuild kit with gasket set, pistons, rings, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust washers, freeze plugs, timing kit and oil pump. is around 600 or without timing and oil 460.

You couldn't do a stroker for anything close to $700 if that is really your budget. Do you have a LD28 crank already? Do you own a machine shop?
Give the poor old L24 a birthday, it's been 40 years.
That's my 2 cents. Might sound a little negative but price this up before you go any further to avoid what could be financial disappointment. Cheap strokers don't last. Have you thought about induction mods for the additional 600cc or brake mods ect?
I sound like a tax accountant! Sheesh!

You're right though - just google l31 build and see the yanks even complain about the cost, for not much more than L28 - unless your spending like 10K on a race engine with full on carbs etc,
The last LD28 V07 crank i sold wend for $300 and they go for twice that in the states.
Another 2c worth - so thats 4c so far lol
L24 on carbs with upped compression and a cam will still give you that throaty roar.

Re: L28 build idea
If I was you I would go for an L28 maybe run carbs, headers etc. A L28 has loads more torque than a L24 and that alone may keep you happy. At the end of the day it come down to one thing..Money
