Didn't really know whether to put this in the for sale section or not.
But I have a ca20 and a ca18det long block occupying my back shed, and since I'm hoping for my flowbench to be finished sometime next month, I'd really like to build a motor.
And there lies the problem, I have no money or car to put it into, so thought I would float the idea on here and see if someone would be keen to get a rowdy 2L ca built?
Basic plan is
86mm bore by 88 stroke = 2044cc
Ca18det block - in stock
CA20 crank - in stock
BMW rods - in stock
86mm RB25de pistons - need to be acquired
ca18det Head ported by me, 3 angle valve job outsourced
Extractors made to suit cams CR etc. (would need to be done after installed in car if local)
Built up and reground cams - from Franklin cams
Induction I was thinking probably injection with custom plenum, made by me and probably just get the stock ecu chipped by Dan to keep cost down
Or 40mm R1 bike carbs but would need to sort out some way to do ignition
I'd also need to sort flywheel, probably an rb20 one at this stage *I think*
Anyone keen? :D

If anyone is serious, let me know and I can start pricing up stuff and and come back with a more specific price
It WILL be more expensive than buying a ca18det

Also this is not a "why bother just buy a ca18det thread" so leave the forced induction talk out of it please (I'm looking at you bart!)

or alternatively how about a ca20det?
same deal pretty much except different pistons for boost freindly compression
I'd can make a turbo manifold to suit your turbo too

I had thought thst the ca20 cranks had smaller bearings than the ca18de's?
They don't call me the man with the rubber arm for nothing you know.............

nope pretty sure it doesn't, will find out for certain when its stripped down though'
Has less flywheel bolts than ca18 though

yeah yeah well clearly no one wants to pony up and build a sweet cammed up ca20de.
So thought Id see if anyone would build a ca20det. Probably not either.

That comment was actually directed at the "why would you build a NA motor when you can put a turbo on it and make more power" comments
I'd much rather build a sweet NA motor cause i'm interested to see how much power could be had but building a CA20det would be fun too.
I mean building motors in general is fun

Yeah man I know what you meant! I do enjoy a bit of forced induction however have to say I love the idea of getting as much power as you can out of a NA motor!

the CA20 cranks are also not fully counterweighted (from what Ive heard...havent personally looked at one)

yeah i would only be using the crank, They rest of the ca20 would be going west.
Fully counterweighted or not won't really be an issue unless turning large revs.
Will be fine to 8k, on a street motor its really not going to matter a shit.
Also Sr20ve came fully or half counterwieghted and they are being revved to 9k on half counterweighted cranks, sure it might cause a bit of premature bearing wear but on a street motor that sees redline fuck all its probably the difference between 250,000 kms and 300,000 kms. Its not going to be a race motor living entirely above 6k.

I guess no ones really keen on either motor then.
Wish I had the money then I could build one
